Standards of Conduct
“… I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way.” Ronald Reagan
The following are the Standards of Conduct that have been established by the Franklin County Young Republicans as a guide for all individuals seeking or occupying federal, state or local offices. These are considered to be fundamental standards of conduct that are so basic that they will seldom, if ever, require modification.
- Show a responsibility to constituents over personal gains in all actions.
- Support and advocate reform to correct situations that are not in the best interest of the constituents.
- Support, advocate and maintain a government that is an optimized balance of size versus cost.
- Support meaningful reductions in taxes that are sustainable.
- Maintain a firm grounding in ethical standards, including compliance with governing laws.
- Work toward fulfilling all campaign promises, consistent with the commitment made to constituents.
- Maintain transparency of actions with constituents.
- Support and protect the constitution of Pennsylvania.
- Support the constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights as interpreted by their creators. (Reference the Declaration of Independence, paragraph 2)
- Uphold conservative values consistent with the heritage of the Republican Party.
- Minimize entitlement programs consistent with allowing citizens to manage their assets, as they desire.
